No, a happy-ever-after isn’t just a fairy tale. It takes effort. And if you're waiting for the perfect person, you won’t find them. But I got pretty close with mine.
My wife and I met when we were 15, got married at 21, and just celebrated 52 years together. The pictures here are from when we were 21, right before our wedding, and this past summer at 73.
Do we argue? Of course. Do we get mad? Absolutely. Every couple does. But through it all, our love is deeper than any silly disagreement. There have been times when I’ve looked at her and said, “Geez, you can really make me mad…” But we love, forgive, and move on. And if that doesn’t work, I avoid eye contact and retreat to my basement workshop until we cool off. 😄
We hold each other to high standards, and we expect the best from one another. Our secret? Knowing when to lead and when to follow. We’re a part of each other, and when we’re apart, something feels missing.
She’s my buddy, my best friend, and I wouldn’t want to spend my life with anyone else.
