 Who is an actor that has a reputation for merely being a celebrity, but in fact has real substance as an actor?

For me, this one is a layup. And it is arguably deeper than most of my answers. It is none other than “Lieutenant Dan!”

Gary Sinise has not only been nominated for Emmy’s, Tony’s and Academy Awards, he has also been nominated for SAG, and Golden Globe Awards as well. However, while his acting is absolutely incredible, and he manages to capture characters so well, he is also one of the most generous and humble people in Hollywood.

He is a husband, married to the same woman since 1981, and he has received both the Presidential Citizen Medal and Letters of Humanity (Amherst). He is generally a conservative leaning Republican, but he refused to follow Republican Dogma or support Trump after Trump besmirched McCain. So, even in politics, he is a humanitarian first.

He also is a stalwart and generous contributor to veterans organizations. His music band, the Lieutenant Dan Band,

performs USO tours and on bases for servicemembers all over the world. He serves on an advisory council for a national non profit dedicated to non-medical care for former service members, as well as serving as a national spokesperson for American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, and has received the Outstanding Civilian Service Award from the US Army. He is an honorary Navy Chief Petty Officer, and an Honorary Marine all for his support for veterans.

In addition to all the above, he is also a director and producer. He served both roles even before “Forrest Gump” made him a house hold name, filling the roles in “Of Mice and Men” where he starred, directed, and produced! Fittingly, he was also the voice of the narrator in the museum in “Captain America: Winter Soldier”!

So, to me, there is no one else that is a famous celebrity, with real substance as an actor, and most importantly, really and truly substance as a human.

This man has won Saturn Awards, SAG awards, Satellite Awards, Tony Awards, and Emmy’s. He has a Hollywood star. And even with all he’s accomplished, with a career many actors would envy, it doesn’t scratch the surface of the amazing things he has done and continues to do!
